When Joshua joined Progress Arc at the end of Key Stage 3, he was unable to access full-time education and required a reduced timetable to help him manage the school day and his learning needs.
A personalised support plan was put in place to help him re-engage with education, including Speech and Language Therapy, sensory support and regular mentoring. This consistent, individualised approach helped Joshua begin to rebuild his confidence, strengthen his emotional regulation and re-establish positive engagement with learning.
Over the following year, Joshua made significant academic progress, achieving over four years’ progress in reading, alongside strong improvements in English and Maths. As his communication skills developed and his ability to manage challenges improved, he was able to increase his time in school and successfully transition from a part-time timetable to full-time education.
Joshua now fully participates in lessons, sustains focus for longer periods and approaches his learning with growing independence and self-belief. He is continuing into Post-16 education with clear aspirations for his future, reflecting a journey of sustained progress, resilience and achievement.
